Unbroken
Contained from the inside, unbroken
Fractured and splintered, unmitigated
Propelled to this destiny, unbidden
Homing instincts, not synched
We missed the connecting train
But still I strained
To follow her like ducks in a row
Like trucks that toe the line
But mother/protector/caretaker was not to be mine
With silence she vanquished my call
A loudspeaker for all
Her heart misfired the translation
“It’s time”, they said
Destination: Consternation
“All aboard!”
All are bored
Fly, run, abscond the son
Creating a barrier
Maintaining the interior
Maligned from the outside, untethered
Abandoned and denied, unfettered
Journeying incognito, unwanted
I meet her gaze but she’s not phased
We missed the bonding moment
No oxytocin or mother’s ocean
Of unsolicited devotion
To tie me to her heart
Instead I pay my tithe for her reluctant part
“Now go”, they cried
For bona fide is this divide
This is no free for all
A carnival for a freak
Of nature and beak and creature
Creating an opening
Commencing the exodus ongoing
Distressed on the outside, undiscovered
Composed and determined, uncharted
Surviving on courage, unrealized
A pace at a time, to distance this crime
A long-passing hour
With no penalty and no foul
Or repentance received
No imploring on knees
A desolate end of the line for a youngling
“Disembark. And leave us no mark
Of your passing”
Collect your baggage
Then bag the wreckage
Shattered, here on the psyche floor
Home’s hearth lies at another door
Propelled to this destiny, unbidden
Fractured and splintered, unmitigated
Contained from the inside, unbroken
